Abstract

Low-alloy steels such as 4340 are widely used in structural applications due to their balanced mechanical properties. However, demands for enhanced strength and wear resistance in harsh operating environments require innovative material modification strategies. Titanium carbide (TiC), a hard ceramic with excellent thermal and chemical stability, has emerged as a promising reinforcement for steel matrices. Initial trials conducted by the Tashkent State Technical University on 35XGSL steel have revealed a 10–12% increase in hardness and significantly improved abrasive wear resistance upon TiC addition. These findings support the hypothesis that TiC reinforcement can substantially improve steel performance [1,2].
